A randomized, double-blinded 12-week study in which 44 participants were split into two groups, called “cells.” One group used a cream with 0.5% retinol in it. The other group used the exact same cream with 0.5% bakuchiol. In the study, some bakuchiol users showed a slight redness and dryness in the beginning, but it did not last … while the retinol users reported facial skin scaling and stinging and continued irritation throughout the use period. The conclusion was that Bakuchiol seemed just as effective as retinol in reducing signs of photoaging and is better tolerated on skin.
